My husband was stationed with the US Navy at Argentia from 1971 thru 1973. There's no doubt Newfoundland is a beautiful countryside and coastline. mu husband and I were out to Cape St.George looking around and came across a flower we hadn't seen before in the wild-thought at first it was a yellow fisherman's basket of some sort-but when I looked at your pics realized it is a yellow ladyslipper!! and yes,it's growing in the wild out there - we saw several and took pics - they are growing on the place where they have a sign about the plane crash of 1944 of a US airplane......tks for the info - love the pics of the flowers-my,we sure have an impressive array of wild flowers here!!

Enjoyed the pictures of St Johns very much. I lived there from 1955 until 1957 when I was stationed at Pepperrell. I was married in Lawn, the last time I passed thru St Johns was when I was on vacation going to Lawn. I was also stationed at Harmon Field from 1963 until they closed that base. Two of my children were born in Nfld, one at Pepperrell, the other at Harmon. I have some friends in St Johns and Stephenville that I still stay in contact with. I just tried your recipe for banana bread for the 1st time. I tried making banana bread once before, it did not turn out so well. It was a disgusting giant hockey puck. Anyways your recipe was delish, I did however put my own twist on it. I put in a TBLSP of sour cream and olive oil, and a dash of cinn/nutmeg and vanilla. And I served it with hazlenut/choc spread. HUGE hit with the kids. I will defiantly use this recipe forever and pass it on. Thanx!!!! Look forward to using your other recipes! Sincerely 1 happy customer!!!

Hi; While living back home in Newfoundland & Labrador I had visited your site many of times since getting your site address from your sister Hope and had totally enjoyed it and for sure enjoyed some of your recipes. Enjoyed the photos. My grandparents, Herbert Gardner and Amy Reed (aka Reid) Gardner emmigrated to the United States in the early 1900's with their 6 children. The family history claims they went across the ice from Random Island to the mainland by dog sled over the frozen waters.
